The original production area of summer cloth is Wanzai County, Jiangxi Province.

Wanzai is located in the northwest border of Jiangxi Province, to the north of Wugong Mountain and at the upper reaches of the Jinjiang River. The county covers an area of 1,718 square kilometers. The area is rich in light resources, has a mild climate and abundant rainfall. It is also rich in water resources, with crisscrossing rivers and canals. There are many springs in the mountains, and the water is clear and slightly alkaline. The mild climate and abundant water sources provide excellent conditions for the production of summer cloth.

The production of Wanzai summer cloth can be traced back to the late Eastern Jin Dynasty and has a history of over 1,600 years. Drawing on the collective wisdom of generations of working people, the production techniques of Wanzai summer cloth have become increasingly mature and refined to perfection. The quality of its summer cloth is "tender, white, uniform and clean, widely used in all directions, and bustling with merchants". In the Tang Dynasty, Wanzai summer cloth was listed as a tribute. In 1936, Wanzai summer cloth participated in the joint exhibitions of specialties from Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi and Jiangxi provinces, the Jiangxi Province's exhibition in Hangzhou, and the 1942 Jiangxi Province's National Products Exhibition Hall Specialty Exhibition. It ranked among the top for its fine processing, soft yarn quality and pure white texture, and received unanimous praise. In 1940, Wanzai summer cloth won a gold medal at the Panama International Exhibition, making it renowned both at home and abroad and one of the three major specialties of Jiangxi Province.

Its yarn is fine, with balanced warp and weft, smooth edges, even weaving, clear and elegant color, breathable, wrinkle-free, crisp and non-deformable, easy to wash, cool and sweat-clearing, and becomes whiter and more tender with each wash. It is a pure handcrafted, environmentally friendly product that causes no pollution or damage to the human body, the environment or the soil. It is

Wanzai County Shuangzhi Summer Cloth Factory was founded in 1988 by Song Shuya, a national-level representative inheritor. It is located in Hehuatang, Wanzai County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province. It is a summer cloth manufacturer integrating inheritance, research and development, production, sales and service. From ramie to summer cloth, the entire production process mainly consists of three parts: ramie planting, raw material production and summer cloth production, with dozens of procedures. Wanzai summer cloth is classified into four types according to specifications. There are five types classified by quality: 400 knots, 600 knots, 800 knots, 1000 knots and 1200 knots. It can be classified into five grades according to the grades.

Throughout the feudal dynasties, ramie cloth was listed as a tax and tribute. It can be seen from this that ramie fabric played a significant role in the development of ancient economy, culture and society. The study of the history of summer cloth production is of great value for the research on the development history of linen textiles and clothing. Wanzai summer cloth is closely related to the production, life and social culture of the people. It can be used to make clothing, curtains, for inscriptions and paintings, and for making handicrafts, etc. At present, Wanzai summer cloth is mainly exported to Japan, South Korea, France, Germany and other Southeast Asian and European countries. In these countries, it is reprocessed and made into various styles of handicrafts, decorations, cultural supplies, daily necessities, etc., which are favored by people in Southeast Asian countries and other regions.

In June 2008, the "Wanzai Summer Cloth Weaving Technique" was included in the second batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture.
